Naturists come from all political stripes. Liberals, conservatives, middle of the road folks, all enjoy the freedom of nudity once they discover it. Legalized nudity is a goal for many nudists around the world.
What would the world look like if nudity was legalized everywhere?
Well, probably not much different than it looks now.
If nudity was legalized everywhere, it would be up to the property owner to determine whether or not they allowed it. This means that store owners would have the choice to allow naked people in or to kick them out. Nudists wouldn’t be able to just invade Wal-Marts or shopping malls. I imagine there would be a lot of companies that would forbid it.
However, there is a niche for everything. And in a legalized nude world you would definitely have businesses that cater to our clientele.
Politically speaking though, what would be the best political persuasion for the nudist community?
In my opinion anarcho-capitalists would be the most nudist friendly of the political categories.
Anarchists live according to the Non-Aggression Principle (NAP). The NAP basically states that force is illegitimate unless in self defense against aggression. They do not believe in using the force of government to compel others. This means that nudists wouldn’t be able to use the government to force companies to allow them in.
If that’s the case, why would anarchy be the best choice for nudists? Well in short people couldn’t create broad sweeping laws that forbid simple nudity. In an ancap world, one could be naked on their own property without fear of arrest or harassment from the law.
Rules against nudity would be unenforceable except by community covenant. This means that nudists would be free to form communities wherever they desired without worrying about statutes getting in the way. And businesses would be free to build in those communities if they so chose.
Nudity is not an aggressive thing. It is not harmful. Ancaps have no legitimate reason to oppose it. In an ancap world there would be no other reason except for personal preference to forbid nudity in certain locations. This means that nudists won’t have to go through a bunch of legal nonsense to create safe places to enjoy their lifestyle, all they have to do is engage in good rhetoric about the benefits of nudity.
Not only could they engage in public campaigns, all they would have to do to create a nudist utopia is band together and buy property. A nude beach would be nothing more than just a purchase of land away, provided there are no local covanents in place to forbid it.
What’s the difference between law and local covanent? Not much. Except that local covenant may be as small as two adjacent property owners agreeing to terms. This is much easier to change than laws indiscriminately covering entire geographic regions. In fact, naturists could purchase several tracts of land next to each other and make a covenant requiring nudity if they so desired.
Anarchist society would be the best society for nudists. They could live without fear of busy bodies using law enforcement to punish them for simply living the way they want to. They could form communities and allow nudity wherever they desired, whether it be on their own yard or in the mall.
