Andhra Special Tamoto Dal recipe

Tamato dal or tamato pappu andhra style tamato dal where pigeon pea lentils are cooked with tamato and other special herbs.slightly tangy and flavorful dal best with steemed rice.

Cooking time :15 minuts
Total :30 minuts

INGREDIENS ( 1 Cup = 250 ml)

. 1/2 cup arhar dal( tavar dal ,pigeon pea lentils)
. 2 medium tamatis-approx 1 to 2 cup chopped tamatos.
. 1 small onion - approx 1/2 cup chopped onion
. 1 green chili- chopped
. 10 to 12 curry leaves
. 1/2 inch ginger + 3 to 4 garlic cloves - crushed to a paste
. 1/2 teaspoon musterd seeds
. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
. a pinch of asafoetida
.1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
. 2 cup water for pressure cooking
.salt as required

HOW TO MAKE RECIPE :-

1.Pick,rinse and soak the arhar dal for 15 to 20 minuts

2.Heat oil or gee in the pressure cooker

3.Add mustard seeds first and let them start making popping sound

4.Then add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle

5.Add the onion,curry leaves and green chilies saute the onion till translucent.

6.Add the ginger and garlic paste and saute for 30 second in a low to medium flame.

7.now add the tamatoes,red chili powder,turmaric powder,asafoetida and salt required and saute for 2 to 3 ninutes on low flame

8.Drain the dal and put them in preasure cooker and add water it required .pressure cook on high flame for 7 to 8 whistles or till the dal is cooked completely.

9.When pressure settle down ,remove the lid

10.Mash the dak lightly and add 1/2 cup or more water to the dal to get a medium consistency stir well

11.put again the pressure cooker on stove 5 to 7 minutes on a low to medium flame sill you get a dal which is neither thin nor think but having a medium consistancy.

12.check the tast and required add salt.

  1. Garnish the tamato dal with coriender leaves.

Now andhra special Tamato Dal is ready now serve tamato dal jot with steamed rice,pickle and vegetable salad.
