The world's oldest turtle

Turtles are known as long-lived animals. But a turtle living in the Alipore Zoo, India, is the record holder of the world's oldest turtle for 250 years.

imageThe name of this tortoise is Adwaita. He was discovered around the 1700s on the Seychelles Islands before being given to the British General Robert Clive of the East India Company. Clive took care of Adwaita as his pet before the tortoise was given to the zoo around 1875. Adwaita lived for 125 years at the zoo until he died in 2006. The researchers used their shells to research and confirm their age.
