Pheasants are pretty common birds in Austria and you can find them in spring and autumn on the fields very often, in summer when the fields are high most of the time you don't see them because they hide in there and only come out for looking for food in the morning and evening hours. So it is much easier to get a nice picture in spring and autumn, when the grass is not so high and the weather not so warm.
You can spot male pheasants very easily because of their beautiful colors, the females have a better camougflage in summer and autumn because of their light brown color.
