Nigel, The World Loneliest Seabird.

Hello Hoomans! today im want to tell you a sad story about The Lonely Seabird, and his name was Nigel.

In 1990s, concrete gannet was set up by conservationist on western side of mana island to lure real bird, and they played seabird calls over solar-powered speakers. In hopes of establishing a gannet colony there.

Nigel was lured by sound that came from the concrete bird that had been placed as a decoys. He arrive in 2013 as the island first gannet in 40 years. But none of his brethren joined him.

Living alone makes Nigel became enamored with one of 80 concrete bird that had been placed as a decoys on that island. he even make a nest for his concrete mate and spent hour grooming with it. Unfortunately, until he died he never knew that it was not a real bird but only a concrete bird.

“It seems like such a wrong ending for Nigel to die now,” said Chris Bell, 37, a ranger for the New Zealand Conservation Department, who found Nigel dead in his nest.

It must been quite a frustrating existence. Whether or not he was lonely, he certainly never got anything back, and that must have been very strange experience, when he spent years courting. I think we all have a lot of empathy for him, because he had this fairly hopeless situation.
