SWFL Bald Eagles: Herriet has layed the first egg!

in animals •  7 years ago

The new breeding season has officially started yesterday afternoon.

Since a few weeks the eagle couple Herriet and M15 have been together again, just like last year, and engaged in repairing and improving the nest. Although the nest tree looks a bit battered, the nest from last year survived hurrican Irma and was still useable.
And yesterday afternoon, Herriet has layed the first egg of the season:

Usually bald eagles lay 2-4 eggs inside a few days. The incubation time is around 40 days, which means the hatchlings can be expecteted around New Year. Exactly like last year. That is, if everything goes well - you can never know in nature.

As before, the whole thing can be observed live via a nest cam, which is operated by the SWFL Eagle Cam crew, and, as a novelty, via a 360 degree (almost) live cam that lets you choose the view direction yourself.
