OMG- where do I begin?

In the picture you can see two little birds, more precisely two woodpeckers babies.

I had a huge oak tree in front of my house and because it was rotting I had to cut it. As I was helping with the clean up a little bit, I noticed a bird on the ground by one of the logs. It didn't fly. I grabbed it and I quickly went inside the house to show it to my boyfriend. I put it in a woven basket with some linens and I gave it some water with a syringe. It drank. I was going to figure out later what will I do to help the little fellow so I left it in the basket and I went back to haul more logs and be done with my tree situation.

As I got closer to the log where I found the first bird, I see another one, in the actual log. I was OMG again and I then realized that they had a nest in there. The nest was not on the outside of the tree but rather vertically down in the trunk of the tree- deeply lodged in the rotten tree. This poor little fellow was all frightened and dealt with the noise and tree falling and all that all day. I was so upset and I had to figure out something.

I took the second baby next to the first baby. It was clear to me that they were not yet able to fly, that they were scared and probably traumatized. I felt so bad. I gave both of them more water and let them be in my Florida room- where they could relax a little bit. I told my boyfriend to do some research and see what we can do to help them. He did and told me that there is quite a possibility that they would die from the shock, that he doesn't think that the mother will come back after them. I was going to keep them over night but then I called my vet and he told me to call Animal Control Services.
I did.

They came and got the birds within an hour or so and speaking with the officer he told me that they will be released in the wilderness but for the time being they will go to a rehabilitation center for birds and they will be put together with other birds. They will learn how to fly and then they will be released.

I felt so bad that I interrupter their lives, I had no idea they lived in there , but I am happy that they are safe and that they have a chance at survival.

Yay for Lily and Lala.

Great that they will be ok

I am so happy as well. I feel bad that the mama had to leave them behind. I am happy that they still have a chance. Thank you.
