Why does my dog sunbathe?

in animals •  8 years ago  (edited)

Everyday when I open the front door or when the sun comes out- my dog sunbathes. She chooses the hottest and brightest spot to lie down and enjoys the rays for 5-10 minutes. She changes her poses from time to time- on her back, her side or sometimes just lying down with her head held high and looking into the sun!

I would understand if we lived in a cold country as dogs regularly lie out in the sun to warm up, but we live in Thailand and the shade is just as hot- everywhere- inside and outside it is just as hot!

Does anybody know why dogs do this?

Thanks- my dog really likes the sun haha

I dont know about dogs but when cats do this, it means that they want to show you that they trust you. They expose most sensitive area of their body to you like: see i trust you

Yeah i think the posture shows the same that they are very relaxed and trusting of their environment- but why in the super hot sun haha

i have this theory that maybe he is more comfortable in the heat in this position. Maybe cuz of white color in this body are, white blocks sun away and dark color heats more. Maybe, im not sure, a guess he is more comfortable that way.

But might not be true cuz he is not in a shadow.
