Every 2nd of the month I engage in a 24 hour fast it is part of a world wide movement called Animals first on the second or AFOTS. This protest was initiated by Izzy Jacobus and was birthed by the fact that animals that are transported to slaughter receive neither food or water anymore, often for more than 72 hours, as it is considered a”a waste of resources” , more sanitary and it makes the poor souls easier to manage and brutalise. The above symbol represents a plate with utensils crossed on it to signify that no food will be consumed this day. Most people paint the symbol on their hand or wear a sticker with the symbol on the day of the fast as conversation starter. And most of us put either a picture with the symbol or a picture with themselves and the symbol on their hand or the hand alone as profile picture during the fast. For me personally the scope of the why has expanded and I will be doing this fast until there is not more animal agriculture, testing on animals or other exploitation or abuse. THIS IS A 24 HOUR FAST TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR ANIMALS. It is not a health challenge or physical competition.
