In the #1 slot for Obscure Anime is Kaiba, an anime that embodies to the utmost everything that this list was meant to represent. No 'semi' needed: I guarantee that no one reading this has heard of Kaiba.
Kaiba is everything good about just about all of the anime below it on this list. It's animation style can, admittedly, take some getting used to, but the story, world design, and characters are so beautiful and unique that it's haunting. I may have said something similar about some of the other anime on this list, but Kaiba is different: on some level deep it reached and changed me.
Kaiba is so good it's personal. That's why it's #1 on my list, but that's also why it might not suit some of you. And while I have to say that I'm pretty considerate of other people's tastes, in this case I'm going to stand my ground - those people are wrong.
Kaiba is bizarre. It's a weird dream, a drugless acid trip. Confusingly beautiful, it's unlike anything you've experienced in animation. I mean that as a good thing.
You'll notice that I've avoided actually talking about what Kaiba is actually about. Well, I sort of feel like you should just sign up and go for the ride. Anyway, it would be a little hard to talk about in any meaningful way without spoilers.
Okay, okay, I'll say this. It takes place in some sort of futuristic society where people can change bodies at will, for the right price. There, we'll leave things like that.
Jump right in, you won't regret it. I would have to say that Kaiba is probably the most artistic anime I've seen.
