waterfall off their fluke

There is something peaceful and relaxing to me when it comes to interacting with Humpback Whales from a small zodiac whilst cruising around the Antarctic Peninsula. The name Humpback comes from when on their last breath they arch their backs and then present their tail, fluke up into the air before descending down on a longer, deeper dive in search of food.

When that fluke does begin to rise up towards the sky, the water tends to cascade off the back of it, giving you a stunning view of a small waterfall rolling of the fluke. This is a photo I took this morning whilst zodiac cruising on the peninsula at a site called Enterprise Island in Wilhelmina Bay. I must say I was beyond ecstatic to not only find a few of these marine mammals cruising close to the ship but I was able to interact with and take a few photos of the encounter before they continued on their way in search of krill.

Oh man, Amazing shot!

Are you working on one of the bases down there?

Thanks, mate! I am working on an expedition ship with a company Quark Expeditions. I work as a specialized guide/marine biologist on the ship

Brilliant! It's definitely on my bucket list to do some time on an expedition ship once I've beat the final boss and got my Chiefs Ticket! Do you happen to know if quark crew there own vessels when it comes to officers, or do they just use a ship management/crewing company?
