'Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.'
When we take into account the Enûma Elish, and the similarities this Sumerian record holds to the book of Genesis, a very simple interpretation becomes possible. We know that the Anunnaki are both spiritually and technologically far more advanced than humanity, even now, and so these aspects should be considered in any scriptural interpretation, especially when coming from any of the first five books of the Old Testament.
As far as my knowledge goes, the Prevalence of the word 'God' in the old Testament was originally found to be an oversimplification in translation whilst documenting the deeds of various members of the Anunnaki. Mostly notably Anu, Enlil and Enki.
Given that these three went about fulfilling their various agendas in different ways, this mistranslation that simplified them all to 'God' is a primary cause of apparent contradiction in scripture.
Bearing all this in mind, I am personally of the view that Genesis 1:2 is essentially telling us that no settlement or technological installation had yet been constructed. Aside from this, there are two possible references in the final line. The Anunnaki traditionally use light as a symbol for knowledge, and Enki was also associated with the Oceans, even called 'The Lord of The Deep' by the Sumerian people
Interesting take on it, you sir are definitely a solid resource when it comes to all things Anunnaki.
