During his WWI stint, he was in the Medical Corps, specifically with the field ambulance.

During November of 1917 it was reported that Christopher had been awarded the Military Medal.

He was also awarded The Star.

For gallantry and devotion to duty on October 4th at Gravenstafel. This man carried on with untiring energy for 36 hours. By his coolness under fire and utter disregard for personal safety he brought in many men exposed to the enemy's fire. He set a splendid example to the rest of the men. source

And other military awards:
British War Medal (1914-1920)
Victory Medal
War Medal 1939-1945
New Zealand War Service Medal
ANZAC Commemorative Medallion

He wasn't a perfect military man though, as shown by the offences listed in his records.

He would reenlist when WWII broke out, and survive that war too. He was assigned to the Reserve of Officers.

And even during this time he wasn't the perfect soldier.

Notes:
His parents were James VEITCH (b. cir 1865; d. 31 Aug 1938, Auckland) and Fanny CLEMETT (b. 28 May 1869, Kaikoura; d. 20 Jun 1948, Auckland), and they married in NZ during 1890.

Father: James's death notice in the Auckland Star, 1 Sep 1938:

Their other known children were:

  • James Andrew Scott (b. 1902)
  • Donald William Houl (b. 1907)

Once home again in 1919, Christopher married Clara Victoria Maud HOGG (b. 17 May 1897, NZ; d. 18 Jun 1989, Auckland).

Both before and after the war - both wars, in fact - Christopher worked at the Bank of New Zealand.

On the 3rd of June, 1932, there was a newspaper report of Christopher having been involved in an accident.

It appears that a hobby Christopher had between the wars was showing (and possibly breeding) dogs. In the NZ Kennel Club's 1924 show, he got awarded for smooth-coat Fox Terrier dogs.

Apart from the dog breading (which I'm pretty much against) he's my favourite. He sounds like he'd be the most fun.
