Last weeks patch did not work
Late last week Apple rushed to send out and publish a recent patch that affects Apple users regarding the root vulnerability, but the patch had a bug within itself. So they have re-released another patch to fix that.
Why didn't the last patch work?
The patch apple sent out last week was found not to alter the MacOS version, If you had an older MacOS and updated to 10.13.1 the bug was still found and the patch did not work.
Today Apple seemed to have sent out an official permenant fix for this problem. The name for this patch that takes care of the bug is called "IAmRoot" (CVE-2017-13872). You will find the new updated 10.13.2 should now be a good fix for this vulnerability.
