Apple has surprisingly provided two old versions of its desktop operating systems with patches against Meltdown. The vulnerability allows attackers to read the contents of CPU memory, including potentially sensitive information (CVE-2017-5754). With Meltdown, used contents may later be loaded from memory into a cache of the Intel CPU, where they can be spied on by attackers.
