On the brink of a shut down the weather was super nice in potsdam. Many people already stayed home so the park is empty and the view is clear. As photographer probably the best time ever to use less or no photoshop. No need to wait for that special moment when you have less visitors.
Anyhow what do you see here?
The West side of the New Palace
That is Potsdam's "New Palace"
Its not exactly new. Its a name. It was built 1763 -1769 for King Friedrich II (Frederick the Great). Often considered to be the last great Prussian Baroque palace. Once you stand in front of it you understand why this is also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Communs
Opposite side of the Palace are two buildings housing the royal kitchens, utilities, gardeners’ shops, palace guards and servants. Between the two buildings stretches a curved colonnade, decorated with statuary and obelisks, which acted as a state entrance and as a screen to shield the view of the marshlands beyond. Thats what you see in the second photogrpah.
Interesting here is that in 1896, Wilhelm II had a tunnel constructed to connect the palace and the Communs underground. Good for times of bad weather.
Potsdam ? Totally worth a visit!
