What I think about all the April Fools out there! Should all be ashamed of themselves!

in april-fool •  8 years ago

It is not OK to LIE. Not even today on the April Fools Day, it is NEVER OK TO LIE! I don´t know how strong I can scream from the top and the bottom of my lungs that this tradition should be abandoned and scrutinised as it serve the world absolutely nothing but evil and brings out the worst in us.

Every year on the same date people get hurt by so called friends who lie to them on April 1st and laugh at them afterwards. I am completely against this tradition, and I want you to join my side and be a moral upstanding non-lying citizen of the world, and maybe specially in the financial world were an April Fools Joke can cause drastic and instant losses (The fact that today is Saturday is actually a good thing for top-traders & hedgefund managers since it is our day off).

If you cannot help yourself but being an April Fool, I suggest trying harder!

Sincerely,
@fyrstikken

I agree!

April Fools is only for fools. Only a fool would not be positive in thought, action, and attitude. A truly wise man for example would never be a fool and never find good in a fool's thought, action, and attitude. Much of these so called "April's Fool" stunts cause loss or harm in some way shape or form and are of consequence to someone or something. That is simply not fair.

Could not have said it better myself, @virtualgrowth.

Preach it.

Yep, never liked it.

Agreed.

Have a nice weekend!!!

I am ashamed and shall never April fool again. It is just a weak excuse to lie. And in this age of misinformation it only adds to the chaos.

thats the fun part tho

Exactly! We have been lied to enough by Media, Politicians and Stock-Brokers. Time to change the culture. Welcome to the light side!

I agree! I never trust what people are telling me on this day. I'm always happy when it falls in the weekend and I don't have to talk to anybody.

It is fun to see what kind of stories some big companies (like Blizzard) come up with though. They usually have something funny in store for us.

I agree! I never trust what people are telling me on this day.

Yeah, better check the calendar often and on a day like this just shut off the world and put some music on and dance until the traditional day of lying is over ;)

Exactly! Or in my case, gaming all day long :D

Not a bad idea. Maybe I should do the same. I have accounts with POGO and STEAM.

I'm just spending my time with dinosaurs in Ark (through Steam that is) :-)

I´m playing CS:GO & Borderlands

You should have made this post earlier! now i feel so guilty

lmao, I should - but I was sleeping in my bed after a long week :)

This isnt a holiday i normally take part in. Its like hitting people on their birthday i don't do that either. I know its all fun in games for most people who see no harm in it. Buts its still not my cup of tea.

If we are going to change the world for the better, we cannot support a tradition of lies.
Sure it is all fun and game until someone gets a pickaxe through their head.

April 1st represents 0.27% of the entire year.
I doubt anyone in here would like to eat a cake containing 0.27% Dog-Shit in the mix, know what I´m saying?

There's definitely a line worth not crossing if one does have a plan to do an April Fool's prank, but I see no harm in doing it as long as that line doesn't get crossed. In recent years, it's been the whole "We're pregnant!" announcements on April 1st. Well, firstly, it's played out. Even now, on March 31st, everyone posts on their Facebook saying "Don't believe any pregnancy announcements tomorrow!", and secondly, it can be perceived as insensitive to those who either can't get pregnant, or who have unfortunately experienced failed pregnancies. So I think stuff like that crosses the line.
But...playing harmless pranks on someone for the sake of April Fool's isn't so bad. Like shaving cream on the hand while sleeping - that's just funny.

I guess my standpoint is if you're going to do an April Fool's prank, just don't be mean about it.

There's definitely a line worth not crossing if one does have a plan to do an April Fool's prank

You are right. Unfortunately that line has disappeared over the years and April fools jokes has become meaner and meaner. IMO.

I disagree. Where is the light heartedness! But i respect your otherwise opinion, after all if we all thought the same the world would be a terrible place.

Hmm... Ok, so you disagree.
I work in Finances. An April Fools joke could cost us a fortune which could cause someone to jump. But it is all fun and game, right? Well, you know my stand. If it was only light hearted small fun pranks, it would not be a big deal - but that is not the case. Heard of April Fools Day Extremists?

I think if it it's a small thing, a light hearted joke that it is fine but i do not agree with big mean hearted tricks which actually cause distress and or harm.

See, that is the problem - a large part of our demoralised population no longer know where to draw that line. The first thing that met my eye when I woke up this morning was someone saying Steem was at 70 cent. Wasted 4 seconds of my life as I had to check the price ;)

Ha, you know i saw exactly the same thing and jumped for joy!!!

lol

I fully understand where you coming from however I have a different take on this

  1. if your prank is of a nasty and damaging nature then yes it like the two words I have used nasty and damaging .True friends will never do such a thing.
  2. If its a light friendly prank then let make people laugh a bit

I was made a fool today and thanks to my co workers it was a laugh Thats when I post a small light hearted post on steemit. If it was not received well please forgive me .

We're conservatives, don't lie tu us! :-)

In reference to your picture:
Why would you want to anger anybody? And what is the point?

Absolutely don't want to flame and anger nobody. Just trying to stay in that interesting middle way between both serious and humorous :-)

In response to the text in your MEME:
Because in my opinion lying is a serious matter and in some cases a serious offence that leads to dark paths no man should find himself on.

nice post @fyrstikken

thank you @silvia

I think it's a bot which would prove your point.

could be.

I am completely against this tradition, and I want you to join my side and be a moral upstanding non-lying citizen of the world

Should we be non-lying or truthful? @fyrstikken

I would be lying if I said that I have always told the truth or that I will always tell the truth, in the future. I certainly aspire to be truthful at all times.
Even so, I focus on telling the truth; not on non-lying or not lying, Kjell

Good. Focus on the truth @nigelmarkdias. And expose liars when they lie.

Gladly... there is not april fool event in my country ! :)

Well, the Internet is full of them.

I even want to make an article with a little lie in it but now I change my mind, some lies can have very bad impact on people. I don't lie today, I let others lie me if that think make them happy

I am glad you changed your mind. Proud of you!
Truth always Win!

oh man

am I so hurt by this april fools prank

Someone lost some coins trading. XD

You are probably right - I would avoid trading today, not a problem since I only really trade legacy-markets and they are closed in the weekend. But you are probably right - someone lost some coins trading because of this evil tradition @acidyo.

Yeah, haven't really heard of any trading april fool's jokes today, but I guess you gotta take any news with a grain of salt on a day like this.

Also I don't really believe the tradition is about straight lying to people, more like a quick deception followed by the truth and a laugh combined with reassurance of reality.

Obviously this hits hardest to the people not aware what day it is and the ones that miss the joke or purpose of it.

The first thing someone told me this morning when I logged into @steemspeak was that Steem was trading at 70 cents.... I had to check. Then I wrote this post.

I totally agree.

I agree, I had always thought this was dumb and obv. inherently deceitful. I have never really participated as such.

I had not thought about the money/markets end.

That is a new addition to my brain, so thanks for that man.

Have a nice weekend!!!

I am 48 years old and never use this day to denigrate my friend, I never made a bad joke on a day like today.
I support your initiative my friend @fyrstikken

Strangely self-referential, this post.

and what do you mean by that?

Oh sorry, I though your post was an April Fool's Day thing as well. Things can get confusing on April 1st.

Maybe this posting might an april–fool too. I'm not sure. Im my opinion the most intelligent april–fool was delivered by @surpassinggoogle, today. I stepped in with full speed even I checked his posting back and forward before. He promised to spend Steam–Dollars. Very advanced and not hurting anyone.

I've managed to keep my posts to a minimum because I don't want people thinking I'm joking around. But I've also not responded to a lot of people's posts (especially on FB) because the jokes/lies/bullshit are rampant. I'd rather be silent than gullible...or perhaps a party pooper.

Oh gosh..I also wrote about April fools today...found this video and I think this is the meanest thing I have ever seen....

Great video - Proves my point.
They are only 2 out of who know how many millions of children being emotionally disturbed because of this evil tradition. Makes me angry to see adults lie to children.

I fully agree.....I would never have trusted my parents again if they did something like this to me.... lying overall is wrong! People like this should be ashamed of themselves!!!
