Sharp’s new product

Japanese smartphone maker Sharp is expected to release a new product. Sharp is a company that mainly produces smartphones for domestic use in Japan. And it is the second most popular smartphone maker in Japan after Apple.

It is news that Sharp has joined forces with the famous German camera brand Leica. IT foreign media such as Gizchina and GSMArena reported that Sharp co-designed the camera system for the next smartphone with Leica.

When looking at the leaked rendered image, a large camera was mounted in the center of the back of the new AQUOS R6. And there is a small camera on the right and a flash on the bottom. The small lens on the side will be ultra-wide or telephoto. The main camera is considerably larger than a normal smartphone camera and has a blunt design.

Detailed camera specifications have not yet been released. However, two cameras are reduced from the previous model, AQUOS R5, and the size of the main camera is quite large, so we are looking forward to seeing what kind of performance it will boast.

But…

This is not the first time Leica has collaborated with a smartphone. Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has been collaborating with Leica for camera technology, starting from the P9 series in 2016, five years ago.

At the beginning, there was a theory that ‘Isn’t only the Leica brand borrowed?’ However, Huawei’s development team started with the optical design part according to the Leica standard, and jointly developed the camera module with the Leica development team, and tried to bring out the atmosphere unique to the Leica camera, such as its unique high saturation, solid color, and detail.

However, it seems unlikely that Sharp’s sales volume will surge because of the joint design with Leica. Huawei also did not gain much popularity in collaboration. GSMArena said, “There will be no Huawei effect this time.”
