Augmented reality with the Microsoft Hololens 2

in ar •  6 years ago

Microsoft is making a new model of their Hololens. Currently it will only be available for companies with a price tag of $3500. It’s designed for people who work with their hands and find it difficult to integrate a computer or smartphone into their daily work.

Why is it not a consumer product?

According to Alex Kipman (the man responsible for the HoloLens augmented reality device):

It’s not as immersive as you want it to be. It’s more than twice as immersive as the previous one, [but it’s] still not immersive enough for that consumer off the street to go use it. It’s still not comfortable enough … I would say that until these things are way more immersive than the most immersive product, way more comfortable than the most comfortable product, and at or under $1,000, I think people are kidding themselves in thinking that these products are ready.

Still, it's cool to see what Microsoft is working on. Makes me wonder, how long before we all wear "smart glasses"?
