نتيجة لتزايد العلاقات المباشرة بين إنجلترا وأجزاء عديدة من العالم العربي زادت الكلمات المستعارة من العربية الى الإنكليزية والتي تتناول الشخصيات والرتب، والسلع
والمصطلحات التجارية، وأسماء الحيوانات والطيور، وأمثلة ذلك:

sultan سلطان،
sheikh شيخ،
muezzin مؤذن،
mufti مُفْتٍ،
cadi قاضِ
carat قيراط،
tarrif التعريفة الجمركية،
artichokeخرشوف
،،، carob خروب،
sash أو shash شاش،

giraffe زرافة وتسمى السبانخspinach .
والأدميرال admiral وهي من الرتب العسكرية عليا في البحرية مشتقة من كلمة عربية وهي أمير البحر.

ونسمع عن نادي ارسينال arsenal المشهور في لعبة كرة القدم - وتعني العتاد العسكري أو مكان تخزين الذخائر- وأصل الكلمة عربي وتعني دار الصناعة dar as،s،ina`ah. وكلمة

adobe والتي نراها غالبا في برامج الكمبيوتر مثل adobe acrobat تعني الطين المستخدم في صناعة طوب البناء. وهذه الكلمة adobe مشتقة من الكلمة العربية الطوبة al-toba. وقرنية العين تسمى بالإنجليزية Cornea.
