Mossel bay is situated on the Eastern Cape coastline of South Africa. It is aparent where it got it name as there is a tremendous abundance of marine life in the area. A cave located a few km away at Pinnacle Point has been identified by archeologists as being inhabited by humans since at least 75000 years ago when a supervolano named Tobo erupted causing volcanic winter around the world. The human population delined drastically at that time and geneticists believe that the effects of the small remaining population is still evident in our genetic makeup. It is believed that humans survived in this cave by living off a marine food source during this time which was less affected by the fallout.
