Old and new in Hong Kong

This photo was taken from a hotel room in Hong Kong… and yes, I take pictures from the window of almost every hotel room I stay in. In this shot, I like the contrast of the 1920’s architecture of the Peninsula Hotel in the foreground with the modern skyscrapers across the harbor.

Below you can see a shot of the same scene at night. The views in Hong Kong never disappoint.

Taken with a Canon PowerShot G12. f/3.5 at 1/6 sec. ISO 1600. It's a little blurry, but not too bad for that shutter speed without a tripod.

Amazing match

Thanks. It's pretty easy to match when You're shooting from the same window.

love these kinds of photos! Also, I used to live in Hong Kong. Lovely city!

Thanks! I visit Hong Kong fairly regularly for work, and I love the city. I can imagine that it would be a fun place to live for a while.

Love what you have done with the image! The b & w gives it a nice vibe!

Thanks so much! It was a very hazy day (as usual), and I felt like the mountain and buildings across the harbor were lost in the original color image. They are very grainy in the black and white version, but I think that adds to the effect.

Here is the image straight out of the camera for comparison.
