Rõngu Church is probably built in the end of the 14th century and is the oldest building in Rõngu. For the first time, the church is mentioned in written sources in 1413. The church is dedicated to the archangel Michael.

The Church has suffered repeatedly during several wars (Northern War, Livonian War) and lost its original architectural appearance during the rebuilding. In 1702, the cossacks burned down the church and only the walls remained in the church. In 1900-1901 the church, in the shape of its current Newgoth style, was transformed by the rebuilding of Rudolf von Engelhardt's project.
