well actually here in hot countries pines weren't natural and yes they manage to grow them in kinda cold regions, mostly mountains but I had never seen the other way around, I mean a palm tree in a cold weather, well but this Architect not only managed to design a really nice house but managed to get palm trees and pines together too...

I live in Johannesburg South Africa, the largest man made urban forest in the world. We have many exotic trees. Pines palms and acacia growing all over. I have a coconut palm in my garden.
I had never thought of it as odd to have such a variety of trees growing together. Your article has made me see my own city in a different way.
