Designed and executed by Craig Steely Architecture, this glass box seems to emerge from an unbroken vault of century-old oaks in the foothills of Santa Cruz Mountains in California.
The "Pam and Paul's House" futuristic design, like a white glass mass, strongly contrasts with the gnarled oaks that wrap around it. Despite this contrast, the house has been designed in line with its environment and to limit the impact on the latter.
Inside, to avoid spatial confusion in the vast open-plan living space, the areas were frankly delimited, cast into the concrete floor, and furnished with a different material. The office, living room and kitchen appear as separate areas, although they are in the same space.
