JR’s Hut Kimo Estate

in architecture •  6 years ago

Anthony Hunt Design, in collaboration with Luke Stanley Architects, designed this small cabin in the Australian countryside, inspired by the classic "A" tent shape.
The cabin is located on the estate of Kimo Estate, a rather unusual farm that has diversified into hosting weddings and providing accommodation to guests. The cabin has been conceived as a place to disconnect and forget the distractions of modern life. A hardwood structure anchors the building, defining the interior spaces and framing views of the surrounding farmland. Inside, the windows follow the structural lines of the cabin. There is a small living room with a door that opens onto a terrace with a view of the valley. A black wood stove keeps the interior warm on cool nights, while the louvered windows allow the passage of air on a hot day. The cabin also has a bathroom with a large window
