This weekend's adventure brought me and my brother to a Belgian town called "Coo". Coo is known for its waterfall, one of the only few in Belgium, and is a point where the rural belgian landscape transists into the more rocky Ardennes. The Ardennes, a ruggy area South of Belgium which includes small parts of France, Luxembourg and Germany, is not only known for its famous battles in both World Wars, but has numerous amazing hiking opportunities.
We've been talking a lot about going for a hike these last two months and somehow we finally ran out of excuses. As such we found a nice walking trail online, agreed where to meet and took a 2 hour train to the town.
Once in the town we where immediately greeted by its "mascot", the waterfall, one of the only few in Belgium.

We continued to our trail, which was... outdated to say the least. Not only did we took the wrong road from time to time. We also ended up in an open farmers field where there was supposed to be a trail. Where there was clearly no path and we just had to cut through, climbing over the barbed wire. And to make things truly glorious we apparently walked in an area that's also used for hunting a few times a year, which we only found out after we passed it.

No path to be seen in this farmer's field

Oh, I could have been shot here? That's nice to know
However, after what was supposed to be a 10 km walk (which ended up more like a 15 km walk), we finally arrived back in town. Tired but pleased with our hike we decided to catch a beer in one of the many dining places in the town before heading back home. I think I'll try one of the many other hiking trails next months as there is still so much to discover in the area.

The hiking trails in the Ardennes are more rural and challenging
