We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
One thing I like to do as an artist is to draw special personalised artworks for friends as gifts! Both because I'm a bad gift giver but also because I find personalised art a better gift than anything I could buy especially in this day and age. But here's one I did for one of my mods recently:
It's birthday period again for my mods on my Twitch channel since there's a lot of birthdays in my community from June to September apparently. So for my mod who goes by Comcbay we actually had a deal that he would change his discord profile picture to whatever I draw him for his birthday this year. Since he's a furry, I said that was a dangerous deal to make since he knows I'm kind of a troll too but he agreed so..
So the idea for this was to have a princess cat in a slightly suggestive pose (due to some inside jokes and because he always says meow). I did some research (incognito mode) and found some references I could use. I also asked Comcbay what kind of hair he likes and he just like long straight hair. For the colour he likes red and black and I found the perfect colour reference on pinterest.
I asked chat for a pose and while I think the suggestive pose I had there was pretty good, I thought it might've been too much and it would be covered by the top I wanted in the top left anyway, so chat suggested that cat-like pose with the paws up.
Eventually after some tracing and referencing, I ended up with this sketch:
It looked pretty okay and after outlining, we get this which I thought was pretty good.
But I did want the top with the cat hole in it since it matches better with the cat theme. So I changed it and thought this looked better and less sus which would probably be better.
After that it was time to start colouring! Since the hair was going to be red and black, I went with a bright green eye.
For the accessories I didn't want an outline so I just drew them in yellow and gold. The crown was a little challenging but I referenced Princess Peach's crown and made some modifications. I also wanted some different colours so I added jewels. I've never coloured them before though so I tried my best.
The rest of colours were pretty easy, but I wasn't really sure which colour scheme to use for the fur so I coloured in the hair and top first. I went with a light pink top for a feminine look that also goes with the hair colour.
Finally for the fur colour I decided to reference Comcbay's favourite cat character - Kitty Softpaws from Pus in Boots: The Last Wish who looks like this:

Her fur was slightly too dark though so I lightened it a little and made it more grey than black.
It seemed a little too dark for me so I tried an alternate colour scheme using Lola Bunny as a reference since Comcbay also likes her.

And after colouring and shading it looks like this which I thought looked better tbh since the hair really stands out more.
But since I coloured two I figured I'd just send him both versions and let him decide which one he wanted to use. For the background I wanted to make the circle clear since Discord uses round pictures so I thought of drawing a yarn ball in the back since it's a cat.
But it got a bit too messy so I just went with the circle instead with the galaxy background. I thought the grey kinda blended into the background too much though.
When I showed it to Comcbay on stream everyone was kinda shocked but I think they all expected I would do worse and honestly I could have, but I also didn't want to pollute my own art feed too badly with this piece. Since I had to look at it and draw it I didn't want anything too sus. I already felt kinda icky just working on this one. Comcbay said it was cute and he liked it so that's good enough for me.
I felt like the Lola Bunny colour was definitely superior but Comcbay ended up using the darker one. To each his own ig. But to his credit he did actually hold up his end of the deal and has been using it as his profile picture ever since I gave it to him for his birthday.
