Indian divorce rate?

ONE PERCENT.

“Feelings come and feelings go… but especially they GO!”

C. S. Lewis

The US divorce rate is 40-50%.

The preceding is not an endorsement.

But it gives perspective to learn that — going strictly on results — not all progress is an unmixed blessing. it’s likely that the same sense of the value of tradition which makes young people accept an arranged marriage also makes them strongly desire to avoid divorce… they don’t want to embarrass their parents, and more broadly, their society.

Would that our modern way of doing it contained half as much regard for parents and society.

How are divorce laws?

It may also have something to do with the fact that getting a divorce in India is much harder than it is in the U.S. You can only get divorced for specific grounds, you have to live apart for one year first, etc. Institute all those rules in the U.S. and I bet the divorce rate would drop significantly. I don't know that that means we would be better off though.
