Arsen Wenger Resigns - End of an Era For the Arsenal - 20 April 2018steemCreated with Sketch.

If you're an Arsenal fan then you should know Arsenal is life, life is Arsenal and there is no other way to see it don't even try to tell me any different. So today is a monumental occasion for fans whether you're an AWOB (Arsen Wenger Out Brigade) or an AI (Arsen In) fan his announcement to retire one year before his contract is set to expire is shocking news since well his been around forever.

I've been a gooner since 1999 so I don't even know what an Arsenal team is without Wenger and it's probably why i've been Wenger In all the way. You know faith and belief are all we need to change the world, well so Bitconnects Carlos Matos told us lol.

Unfinished business

The main reason I felt Wenger would stick around was to complete unfinished business and claiming a league cup title and a champions league title so he once he stepped down he would do so with the full bouquet of trophies available to him. Unfortunately, that won't be the case, but does it really matter? He will still be remembered as one the most successful managers in the English game and the only man to go unbeaten in a single season.

Potential managers

So as the Frenchmen says goodbye to the Emirates we turn our attention to who will be filling his boots. Regardless of who comes in they will have their work cut out for them, whipping the team into shape, bringing in their own ideas and of course following in the footsteps of a football great in AW so it won't be an easy feat and they will need time.

Prior to the announcement and now post announcement we've had the following names linked with the Arsenal managerial position

Patrick Viera

Massiliano Allegri

Diego Simone

Joachim Low

Eddie Howe

Luis Enrique

Brendan Rogers

Tomas Tuchel

Thierry Henry

Carlo Ancelotti

Personally, I'd love Simone but I doubt he would leave Athletico for England very even though he is realistically the best candidate for the job in my opinion. The more likely option would be Tuchel who I think is a front-runner for the job and I think Gazidas and Kroenke will look for a manager that will steady the ship and be a boardroom "yes man" and not cause too many issues but concentrate on what happens on the field.

While the team hasn't been performing in recent months the new manager will inherit probably one of the most talented groups of players a manager could ask for and I think any manager that comes in will be lucky to work with many of the player's arsenal has to offer. Ozil, Ramsey, Auba, Lacazette and Santi to name a few.

End of an era

Whether you love him or hate him one thing is for sure there is only one Arsen Wenger, there's only one Arsen Weeeeeeeeeeenger.

Im hoping the team rallies at this news and sends him off on a high with a win in the Europa league which is no less than a man who has given 22 years of his life to a club deserves.

His given us the platform we have today and hopefully, the next manager can take it and run with it. WIll we be chanting we won the league at shite hart lane again? I really hope so! But regardless, im a gooner to the end and so will AW!

Have your say

What do you think of Wenger resigning? Is it better for Arsenal? Will we continue to decline? Will it be just the breathe of fresh air we need? Who do you think should be the man for the job?

I think we should hire Massiliano Allegri.
He is a nice manager. He has done good job at Juventus

I wouldn't say no to Allegri or Simone those two would probably be the manager's id feel most at ease about having take over from AW. Luis Enrique is also an outside favourite and I would say is my rational 3rd choice

I thought Simone is settled at Athletico Madrid and won't leave

His been linked with the job but I agree with you, I don't think he will leave either his also a very fiery figure and I don't think the Arsenal board would be too pleased with the way he conducts business

Arsenal should hire someone immediately after the season coz their is gonna be too many new upcoming players in world cup. New manager need to sign them early on.

I never even thought of that but you're right they need to sort it out ASAP so the manager can come in and sort out a budget identify targes and get used to all the players we currently have and see who he likes and who he wants to let go
