The principle of electroplating is relatively simple , electrolysis. But the devil is always in the details and in the practice. youneed to have generators to create low voltage DC , tanks to fill with water and differents chemicals depending the metal (or sometimes the alloy ) you want lay down. But its not all, the most important is the way you prepare the metal (It must be perfectly clean and glossy or mat according to the result you want) . If you have specific questions i might be able to answer it.

Thanks for your reply. I was also under the impression that you had to work with very toxic chemicals which scared me away a bit from trying it myself. I did try some copper plating in the past but that was as far as I got. I can really see that you have mastered the technique.
