Environment Design Practice

I'm following an Environment Design Class at Schoolism by the great Nathan Fowkes, as you mights have read in a previous post. Today I made some more homework!

The homework assignment is copying an environment (either a painting, photo or screencapture) in about an hour, trying to capture the essence of the painting or photo. I used a still from the short film Piper from Disney Pixar.

I painted this during a train trip on my iPad Pro, using the app Procreate and an Apple Pencil. I'm really liking the Vine Charcoal brush the app offers!
Slowly but surely getting used to painting on the iPad :)

Here's a little process capture

That's what I like the most about landscapes/environments. You can leave a really strong impression on the viewer without even having to go into too much detail. Of course details make it whole in the end, but I always find it fascinating how quickly one can get a feel or general vibe across with just a landscape. Great work on this one!

Thanks! That is what I like about it too! And the charcoal brush is perfect for it.
I hope I'll be able to do some plein air digital painting some time :)

really nice art😁😁

Thank you! Glad you like it :)

wow, so great...

Thank you so much :)

I like how you've captured the subtle highlights on the water. Very nice. Never tried digital painting before. I'll have to add it to my bucket list. :)
