BEASTLY TALES

GRAVE ROBBERS

Grave Robbers, in the Victorian era,
Sounded particularly vile, to the casual hearer,
And they were precisely that,
Although, some, probably, wore a Top Hat.
They’d dig up cadavers in the dead of night,
The casual observer would get a big fright.
And when they’d dug the body right out.
Quickly, for they weren’t inclined to hang about,
They were off! And to the hospital they would go,
To make commercial contact with Doctor so-and-so,
Who would pay them the going price,
For their package, not very nice!
Medical Research, was their reason for buying.
Under circumstances only described as “trying”.

Fast forward for many a decade,
And Grave Robbers are still applying their trade,
Although they, now-a-days, require a University Degree,
Yes, a University Degree in Archaeology!
Digging up skeletons from under the earth,
Looking to see what they might be worth.
Carbon dating, to see how old,
Perhaps, checking to see if any teeth had gold.
Matters not that they’ve lain undisturbed for centuries or more,
Off to the Lab they go, and then to the store.
Having been catalogued, details recorded,
They rest again, in a fashion most ordered.
But the Boffins don’t know, just who they were
Only that they were buried, dug up, and sent again to inter.
