The Perfect Illusion - how real can CGI look?

A few days ago, I posted examples of the work of a traditional artist painter, who focuses on motorsports and cars as motives for his oil paintings. Now, I would like to present some works on the same subject, but created with the latest technology: computer aided 3D design.
The degree of realism achieved in these pictures is simply mind boggling. As yet, such pictured a re rendered as single frames, but with the progress in computer power, I assume it wont be long before we see real time animations of this quality.
