In the summer of 2003 I took my Daughter Kassie to a Pow Wow held on the Six Nations Reservation, Ontario, Canada.
While walking among the Vendors displays, we came upon this particular booth displaying a very unique style of what I, at first glance believed to be paintings. However to my amazement turned out to be constructed from meticulously selected feathers of beautiful natural colours.

My attention was drawn to the one pictured above, even though there were over two dozen being displayed. Each being as beautiful as the next, each very unique in their vibrant colours. Each telling their own story. As I stood thIMG_0254.JPGere looking at each different piece, I found myself comparing them to the one pictured. Subconsciously I had already made up my mind which one I would purchase.

I told the lady which one I had chosen, she smiled and proceeded to take it down from the wall where it hung amongst the others. As she turned facing me, she asked was there any particular reason for my choice?
Yes there is I said, four years ago I built a Canoe, A very special Canoe, that I named "THE JOURNEY", because it had actually saved my life. I didn't elaborate any further, other than, if there were two of them I would buy them both, one for each side of the canoe's bow.

The lady smiled, that kind of smile, when the eyes sparkle and you know they are truly pleased.

She turned the piece over revealing the back.

Wow!!! That is cool,

Well I thank you my learned friend. However I can't help thinking if the birds screamed as the feathers were plucked;(
