"The Yellow Ball" - 12"x12" oil on panel - Showing stages of the "work in progress" and my reference photo

in art •  7 years ago

This painting was mostly painted with a brush on an Ampersand Gessobord, which is an archival panel made for artist. I used lots of ivory black, white, a few different greens as well as a bit of reddish colors in selected places. Photos of my work in progress as well as my reference photo are below.

This was my reference photo. This is my friends dog that owns an auto mechanic shop. All his customers love this dog.

First stage: I blocked in the main values of the dog. Then, I went ahead and painted the background so I could get a feel of how the painting was going to look. This way, I would know if I had to lighten or darken the values on the dog. Since the paint was wet I went ahead and signed it using a pointed color shaper.
