Space Lobster [FIRST EVER 3d Sculpt]

in art •  5 years ago

I blame @juliakponsford for me not doing an #inktober prompt drawing today. Julia made a cool post about a spiky alien blob she recently sculpted using an online 3d sculpting browser program: https://stephaneginier.com/sculptgl/

So naturally I started messing around in the program and damned if I didn't just spend hours making some kind of space lobster :joy:

This was my first experience doing any kind of digital 3d sculpting and the browser program is super intuitive and easy to use. I am totally hooked. I have to figure out how to import skins and render images and what not, but for now here are some screencaps of the current state of alien lobster affairs:

Thanks mate! It was one of those things where all of a sudden it is 2:30am and my mouse hand is cramping up and it feels like I am coming back from a strange trip :)

:D btw love ur profile pic
I think I should also draw more.. or start at all^^

Honestly, I looked at the pictures first, then read the post. I thought this wasn't your first time doing digital sculpting. It's awesome! I usually use Blender for sculpting (no, not the one that makes juice, if you didn't know) but I think I'm gonna try to play around with this one a little.

P.S. That trippy shading is actually black magic. If you know how to use that you'll realise that I'm not even joking XD

Hey thanks that is high praise from you dude! I am probably going to download blender or zbrush (? I think that is the name?) when I get a minute, I am definitely having fun messing around with 3d sculpting :) I am working on some kind of warped head bust thing now in the online program

Wow this is an awesome creation @carlgnash. Although (as you know) there's quite some art out there, and also a lot of art is of high quality. It also means we see a lot of similar things pop up, while this is something quite rare imo. You mention that @juliakponsford is to blame, so I will check out her sculpture as well.. I'm curious to see what else you will create .. <3

Thanks @anouk.nox that is high praise! I had a lot of fun making this and I am pretty sure this is going to become a new obsession :)

Haha I assumed that was going to be the case, but it can only get better .. I mean, first attempt already looks super cool :)

Yay I am glad you are having fun playing with it too! Pretty cool that it is a browser program with no download needed but seems to be a pretty fully functional 3d sculpt tool :) Cheers

Woah, very cool,I especially like that opalescent coloring, did you do that by hand or is there some shortcut to this :p

Not by hand, the different colors in these images are from different settings in the "Rendering" menu on the right, in the "shader" section. The top white/pearly images are "PBR" setting in shader and "Venetian Crossroads" in environment. The green is "matcap" (default) setting in the shader and a "green" in the skin settings. The blue/pink/purply trippy ones are "normal shader" setting in the shader. Thanks for posting about this program, it is super cool!!!

Thanks for the tip, I didn't experiment with those very much but I'll take a look next time I have a play around!
