Obfuscation is the title of this painting it relies on the principles of a corrupt money system as well as a structured approach to painting. With my Financial Series of paintings I wanted to make a on going commentary on our lack of understanding from an early age, our education system refusing to ask the questions around what is money rather they focus on what you can do with it. The axiom is what is money remains pure so don't question it.
I find that people, for the most part are not interested in the subject because they don't understand or even care to because it functions for them. They complain about the price of everything going up, houses, taxes, food, gas yet our wages remain with in a band and do not increase to the same exaggerated levels. I don't mean to conflate ideas here but it goes to the root of the question if money is a store of value and energy, in that you trade your time and labor for purchasing power down the road, why do we have these extreme cost increases.
I live in Canada, just outside of Vancouver. I have seen the rise in every aspect of the cost of living and our government laughing doesn't include any in the above mentioned to factor in our inflation index which would change how employee bargain for their living wage. The idea of even retaining our purchasing power is a non starter because the inflation number is around 3% by design rather than an honest accounting for it.
I choose to use art to talk about these issues because images unlock more ideas than do words.
