Impressionistic Lion Painting: 5th ARTstyleART Contest Entry

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

I have just been waiting for an excuse to paint a lion! Thanks again to @aksinya for putting on these contests. Artists, if you haven't seen this yet, I'd recommend joining in!

This week the challenge is Modern + Africa. My style is based in optics. I love using vibrant colors in a way that when they're placed next to each other they optically mix (like in pointilism if you place a bunch of yellow and blue dots in the same area, it will appear green from a certain distance). Our brains mix them for us. From a distance, my pieces look pretty realistic. Up close? Not so much.

This little lion is on a 6"x6" canvas and done all in acrylics. There are lots of metallics: gold, copper, and bronze so this baby glitters!

I decided to take some pictures along the way so you guys could see how he came to life.

I think I could have stopped at that last step, but sometimes I just can't stop the details. I really think I'm addicted, guys.

Here's a couple close-ups so you can really see what's happening:

You mixed 2 things that I appreciate deeply art and nature. I looked at this post a few times scrolled through each of the stages of the work. You have a good eye for the changing hue. The shadowing is decent but attention to the details of the hue. you get from the yellowish hues to the brownish hues seamlessly. I am following. I would upvote too but it is worth .00 at the moment.

Thanks! I appreciate your comment! That is at the center of my attention when I'm painting. It becomes a bit of an exploration sometimes to get it just how I want it with the color palette I want to use. I glad to hear you enjoy it!
