I went to a great Irish folklore lecture in Dublin. Phookas were one of my favorite fairies. The woman who was lecturing described them as ghostly horses that would take drunk people on wild rides that often included fights and infidelity and then leave them in a ditch. Then then the victim of the Phooka could explain that it was a fairy that was responsible for everything.
