Just take a look at this link packed with beautiful Easter Bonnets, many of which you can make yourself.
Easter Bonnets started around the 1870's with the ladies who went to Church at Easter time and wanted to look their best in new clothes. They had just been through the limitations of Lent so that was a way of celebrating for them.
Since long before Jesus Christ was born, Easter was celebrated. There was a pagan goddess called 'Ishtar' who was worshipped each spring and represented 'renewal'. She was worshipped on a chosen Sunday, hence we have our Easter Sunday.
Easter Parades to show off your bonnets became popular in the 1940's, especially after a movie called 'Easter Prade' came out.
What about your country?
Do you have Easter Parades or is it more of a 'Treatster' holiday for you?
