The Beauty is in the Details

Detail of St. Francis by Federico Barocci - circ. 1604

This painting mesmerized me. Just take a look at the eyes of the Saint; concave, moist, full of expression. This is just oil paint on two-dimensional canvas, yet the artist, Federico Barocci, has created a living breathing person here. Barocci was a contemporary of Caravaggio. Though well known in his time, he is far less so today. His work hangs in some of the greatest museums in the world, including the Pinacoteca and Borghese Galleries in Rome, and the Uffizi in Florence. This particular painting hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Your appreciation of art and all things creative speaks highly of you. Whilst I agree that the painting you snapped here is indeed well painted the word I took from your post is Uffizi. We have been there on two occasions and could go back some more. Firenze is an amazing place to be and is made more interesting by its history and history of the arts. We have a couple of painting’s we picked up from a street artist out the front of the Pitti Palace in 2011. I might post about it someday.

For now though, thanks for sharing your passion for art. Resteemed.

We never got inside Pitti Palace but we did have lunch out front in the fresh air. I've been following @fialca a gal in Italy and looking at her posts makes me regret my grandparents ever came to the USA.

I'll check her blog out...

Did you walk around the Boboli Gardens? Amazing! I love Florence.
