"Ithaqa" Comic Book Update #170 The Deal Is Struck! + An Intro to Editing Your Own Novel

Mookie resigns himself to being partners in crime with Ruth, he's running out of time to pull a moving picture out of thin air, and without Ruth, he's toast!

So I'm fairly deep into the editing process now, and I stumbled across a very helpful youtuber who has a great channel allllll about good writing/editing.

So in here, she breaks down the use of two tools, a list of all your scenes and then a "Plan For Revision". It was surprising how helpful even just listing out all my scenes on paper was! It was especially useful in helping me zero in on scenes that had minimal to no conflict, a big no-no in writing (and especially in horror)!

The next thing I assembled was the Plan For Revision, in which I dumped all of the notes I've received on the story to date, as well as all the things that occured to me while I was building out my scene list.

Woof, it's all a little daunting, especially since issues 6+7 haven't even been reviewed by my editor yet! So I can expect a lot of rewrites over the next few months...I'm actually going to be revisiting issues 1+2, there are some improvements to be made, I just hope that they come in the form of adding pages and not in scrapping old ones.

It kinda sucks when you think you go something right, and then someone else gives you some really good notes that make you wanna change it. If they were crap notes then we'd just be steeming on ahead to issue 4, but when a good publisher gives you good advice...maybe you don't GOTTA take it, but you probably should...

Also want to thank you all for the love I got in Trial By Comics this week! I'm glad I had a good excuse to show you guys how I write these scripts, while also showcasing one of the craziest segments in the series! You can check it out below if you want to see some 5th dimensional knitting!

I'm just getting started reading and exploring... but very excited! Someone tackled the crowdfunding angle of Steem!

Oh my god! @enternamehere saw that too! Did the blockchain gods hear our prayers about a Steemstarter and provide the tech?

It was inevitable, and there’ll probably be competing implementations, but I’m glad someone started it off already.
The site/system is rough around the edges but shows a lot of promise. Just formatting things in a funding style is half the battle. And they’re accounting for direct donations as well as donate via vote, which is what I most wanted!
I’m mulling over starting a little campaign or two to test it out...

Thank you for sharing that video. Looking from the outside in, there are endless considerations to make during editing! Although it's probably very tedious, having a structured plan of action seems like the most logical way to approach the process.

Yes, and also her advice to start big and then work small is super important too. Making spelling and grammar changes are easy so you can pretend like you're making progress by combing the text, when in reality you need to first address if there are scenes and characters to cut/add!

By the way, this morning I saw a post by @enisshkurti about decentralized crowdfunding on a new platform called Fundition and thought of you guys:

Fundition Platform is a missionary platform aiming;

To become the biggest decentralized crowdfunding platform. Our goal is to help raising funds for the campaigns with Steem and other cryptocurrencies which will pay out in Steem coins.

Fundition uses the Blockchain Technology and the Steem blockchain

YAAS! Thanks for sending this my way!

No problem, perhaps it will be another vehicle to propel Ithaqa forward. ☺

Yes, the key fundamentals of the story should take priority over surface errors like misspellings. This is all helpful advice (especially for the developing writer) even though these things may seem really obvious to a more seasoned writer. Thank you again!

Nice :D
