Why must celebrities be so cryptic?

Working on a series of video about CryptoCelebrities I felt inspired to put forward a watercolor project about them in one of my art classes. I like to find themes which relate to what I am currently doing in one way or another. This one provided a great opportunity to study portraiture and I wanted to impress on my students the value of a restricted color palette and so I allowed them to choose 2 primary colors to work with. The secondary they create when they mix was also allowed. We picked head shots of actors from the silver screen era like Joan Crawford or Marlon Brando. I love the study of lighting from that era and the richness of the tonalities it creates.

Everyone was impressed by Rodolpho's work and his Warholdesque precision.

Mirza struggled quite a bit with proportions and never made it to painting. However he showed courage in the face of adversity. I like the style.

Patcharapong, I love to say his name. Such uniqueness is hard to critique but I did ask him to avoid overworking his paper.

Sozan saw a mix of herself and Joan Crawford in this. That would be disturbing if it was me.

Lindsey was going to opt for a 3/4 view but decided straight on might be easier. Even then, one has to account for the tilt of the head. It seems that Hepburn liked to be shot from above to emphasize her doe-like features.

Don't forget Judy Garland.

I love Ryan Murphy's show Feud. The first season focussed on the rivalry between Joan Crawford and Betty Davis and I'm certain that I'm not the only Millenial who found himself drawn to old Holliwood anew watching it.
