Something happened to me some few years back. I visited a friend at her place and had to introduced myself to a group of people who had visited and also was meant to tell what I did for a living. Personally, I saw the part of telling what we did for a living as unnecessary but I had to play along.

These other guys have introduced themselves as some pretty cool things even though some of them weren't employed yet. So it was my turn to introduce myself and I had been contemplating if I should introduce myself as an artist since that's what I do for a living or as an organic chemist since I studied chemistry in University.

Finally, I introduced myself and mentioned that I was an artist. First some were like, "Do you mean artist like a musician?" and I'm like, " No, I draw and make art". It's sounded cool knowing your the only person who can draw in the midst of everyone but after some days, I began hearing words that were disrespectful and downgrading.
Some of these guys had concluded that since I was an artist, I'm definitely struggling financially.

It wasn't a big deal to me until one of them mentioned in a discussion that most artists are broke. I didn't take it personal, but just thought, "Have I done something wrong for being an artist??". I couldn't blame them because the market was easy to survey and conclude on the standard of living of artists in the country. Some artist struggle to sell their works and the when they finally do, it's hard feeding themselves and their families from the token they had received. This has been a jinx for a long time now and I ponder on this issue something.

Now my reader, "Why do most artists struggle financially??". Feel free to let me know your thoughts on this.
