My vote goes to the middle entry by @archerized and here's why. It's a story, something which I have seen rarely in different pixel art contests around the interwebs. It's almost a "short film" instead of a gif because it establishes a world, a world which we can populate with our imagination. In which war is that child's father fighting in? Will he ever be back?

It kinda paints the horrors of war, not the ones on the battlefield, but the ones back home.
