The Oracle - part 2steemCreated with Sketch.

I have been working a bit more on the digital drawing I commenced about a month ago. You can see it here: The Oracle. It look a bit like late eighteen century orientalism, the time when the bourgeoisie of Paris (and everybody else I suppose) couldn't get enough of naked harem girls and bearded savages. Some of it was great, like Gérôme, some of it terrible, but it was definitely bad taste :)

I am not finished I still have to do the water and the other lady. Maybe I can even use it as a post about how the traditional baroque painting was constructed...? As usual made with the open source application Krita

That's interesting. Is that a mystical seeing pool at the bottom?

I am not sure. I was just making it up as I was drawing. I thought that the linen maybe was to cool her head, but it would be a better explanation that she has the wet linen wrapped around her head with the holy water, and the fabric is then placed in the well to connect her to the spirits of the water...

I like how it tells a narrative without the need for text.

This is turning out great so far. If I was drawing this the feet would be hidden in the shadows. ☺️

:)

The best way to learn is to jump right into it... we have a tendency to avoid what is hard, but actually when you look at old drawings, the best are the ones where you struggled. (I guess that was what you meant?)

As for why I haven't drawn the feet yet is because I do think that there is a small problem with the perspective on the floor. Thankfully in digital painting you can just fix that. Had it been a real drawing I would have been very annoyed right now...

digital art is a lifesaver and I've been able to save a lot of experimental art.

It is indeed. Working on paper and canvas takes a lot more precision, planning and experience... and a lot more failures:)

Nice drawing
