Here Is My Gallery of Manhole Covers From Badenweiler. Enjoy!

What Do You Think?

  • Do you see the beauty in these usually mundane items?
  • Do you also like to see beauty added everywhere possible?
  • can you give me some examples?

Send Me Other Pictures of Beautiful Man Hole Covers!

Please post pictures here of other beautiful man hole covers and I'll reward the best one with 10 SBD!

How's the smell when you are standing over the ones with holes in them to take your pictures? Just wondering :-)

Lol, I think He put's his camera on slow motion and rides with his e-bike over it and takes the shots... that's a win win situation..

Yes, well, you bring up a good point. This could be fodder for a future article!

lovely!
I had a few from Germany in the boarder in Kranenburg .. but I guess the prettiest I saw was in Japan in fact @runrudy posted on that - lit and colorful
no one would really fall off it

The ones in Japan are amazing!

Very good view, great question, it is not easy to see the relevant details :)

May be @kus-knee wore an anti-odor face mask and that might be the reason he showing only his leg...haha

If you go down, you first believe what you smell ;-) just by seeing :-) ,....

You will smell it when you believe it?

This morning I did smell it, and even wasn't under a man hole ;-)

Good question.

Umm, probably you don't know much about German engineering! All the sewage water flowing under these manhole covers is perfectly clean and its so much aromatic that it can beat any french perfume brand. LOL!

Oh, those Germans!

I think @kus-knee and you need to investigate for some man holes in Loutraki. I can be the driver.. Then I must bring two "Bavaria"beer because kus-knee also wanted to taste one.

I love the nature of this post: travel somewhere new, but don't get swept away by its novelty. Instead: keep your eye trained on what's common, relatable, and find beauty in it.

At first glance, it's strange to see manhole covers in the travel section, which normally features palm trees, sunsets, and scenery, but it's a nice deviation from what's "normal" here.

Thank you for sharing. :)

Thanks for noticing!

Once upon a time, I think people took more pride in making everything of high quality and beautiful...few things, beautiful to the eye and they would last, as is evidenced by your photos

You bring up a good point. I have witnessed a lot of the philosophy on this trip.

We need more keen tourists like you to make the government think about enhancing the beauty of manhole covers every where around the world.

You have got an amazing sense of beauty and even manhole covers can't escape that. Kudos to you @kus-knee! I loved this post along with the several comments scattered with so many beautifully designed and well-kept manhole covers that they can put many gardens to shame!

Thanks so much for your comment. I really enjoy looking at beauty and learning to appreciate my surroundings.

Japanese manhole(Himeji):) imagej

Great! In Wikipedia under man hole covers they show a picture of one in Japan! Awesome!

I was impressed with man holes in Japan.didn't expect such work of art in manholes:)

I know very well the German style Manhole Covers and I've observed that other regions of Europe are trying it out. In Bistrita, Romania, the city where I live, a couple of years ago, all the old and medieval streets have been re-developed and since then all the Manhole Covers are personalized. See the photo below.

Although the city of Bistrita is one of the 12 medieval cities of Romania where in the far past many German people lived and therefore the similar Covers are maybe usual as here still live a quite a lot of German people. Even the president of Romania is German at the origins.😅😅

Very nice. Thanks so much for sharing!

In big bustling cities, the pace of life is so fast that people barely look at the beautiful details of the city. People look down, but on their smartphones not manholes, it's truly mind opening that there are people like you who would appreciate manholes, such a niche hobby hahaha!

Cheers!

You are so right about looking down at our cell phones. There is a world out there to discover and enjoy!

hahahaha OHHHHH look you have another post on man hole covers!
I didn't catch this one but had to go back and look over your page to find the posts I have not yet seen. I like the new post you just did more as that gallery was so nice but these sure are cool too!
Nice post Dawg!

It appears you are not alone in your admiration of man hole covers:

Jeremy Corbyn (leader of UK opposition) is also a big fan!

Hey, so cool, thanks for sharing! Looks like he's willing to get down and dirty too!

Unfortunately not always so sensitive to subjects such as manhole covers. We are normal, and they periodically steal and hand over on scrap metal. So it is not the place paints the person, place and person.

Very nice Man Holes! Did I just say that?

I too thought about doing a post at one point about the ones I saw in Quebec City. Unfortunately, I don't have enough of them to constitute a lengthy post, so I'm just gonna share them here since we are on the topic.

Very cool and thanks for sharing!

Something i found over the net..haha

Good one!

Thanks @oldtimer :-)

A very nice entry in the contest.

Thanks @kus-knee , finger crossed :-)

imageJapanese people are very creative for design problems, no wonder the manga industry is growing rapidly there.

Those are amazing. Real works of art!

i think so, They are image artists @kus-knee

Just took this one. Hope you like it :D

Thanks man. Where is it?

Lithuania

Way to go!!! Another fun post. How strange that I have literally walked over something so interesting without noticing it before.

We men are truly such magnanimous creatures. No group of men has ever complained that about the term manholes. Just sayin' ;-)

Found the above, which I also like, on PxHere labelled free use @roused

Fabulous additions to our gallery! Thanks!

how do you find these?

I like them..I like them. Thanks!

Great post, another example of inspiration being all around us. Sometimes all you have to do is look around, or down :)

A popular quiz question but do you know why manhole covers are round?

I didn't know but found this:

A round manhole cover cannot fall through its circular opening, whereas a square manhole cover could fall in if it were inserted diagonally in the hole. Circular covers don't need to be rotated or precisely aligned when placing them on the opening. A round manhole cover is easily moved and rolled.

Thanks for making me think!

Bella collezione fotografica!

We have also a lot of these man holes here in the Netherlands. To be honest I have never giving much thought bout it untill now. Just told my husband.
Funny when you live somewhere you don't py a lot of attention what happends around you. SO busy with the daily things, kids, work, study....I think it's really time for me to take a step back and enjoy more of the little things around me :D
Thank you for your post.

Thanks for your thoughts. There is a lot of beauty around and for sure a lot of thought and even meaning was out into some of these utilitarian items.

I like the full metal ones with the seals of the city. Looks for me like the real ones. The modern version with concrete I do not like.
Okay, okay, the japanese version is crushing it.

Yes the ones in Japan have taken this to another level!

By habit we walk past and over manhole covers every day, without ever taking the time to look down. We're all to busy looking upwards to the stars, thanks to your post i'm going to change that habit. Great pics, post and art. Good job.

Thanks a lot. Let us know what you find!

will do, if i see anything of interest.

Haha... great post!
There are so many things to see around us... tomorrow I will try to find one here in Giubiasco and post a photo ;-)
Ciaoooo

Hey @steemitri, have a good look around and let us know what you find.

Here I found one... but they tried to hide it with some flowers :-)

So Nice!!!!!! You the man!

Very nice! Designers do get some creative leeway sometimes! I have a vague memory of seeing some from a local foundry (maybe Fargo?) that were really interesting, as well.

When I finished my bachelor's degree in industrial (product) design, I actually interviewed for a place in Washington State that designs those. Alas, someone with a higher degree and ten years' experience was given the position.

Ah well. Great photos and article!

You studied Industrial design? So cool, me too. Where?

University of Wisconsin–Stout, graduated in '06. Now I'm back in school doing a grad program in a completely different direction!

Things change and so do we. I designed furniture and retail store fixtures for high end companies for years and now I'm also in a mother field.

now I understand the feeling of others when they see me taking pics of "strange" things - lol - i know these hole covers from everyday walking on the streets in Germany, never considered the beauty of the design but i consider it now Mr. Bones

In Munich you have so much beauty to look at!

Greetings, mate! These manholes got different designs and I guess somebody is taking care of that! What a nice occupation - the designer of manhole! :) I am trying to see the beauty and extraordinary in my everyday routine as well, some people wouldn't even notice anything on the manhole and another one will make a research and start the manhole photo collection! Keeping eyes wide opened - means living with taste and pleasure:) YOu have a great blog, I followed you and upvoted, have a great day!

Thanks so much for your input. Are you located in Ireland?

I live in Phuket, Thailand for 4 years already! The local authorities don't care much about decorating the manholes, so I couldn't find any decent one to send you :( On the other hand, Phuket is a wonderful place to live, with white sand beaches and great nature, so I think it compensates the ugly manholes:)

This is such an interesting project. I love your ability to find beauty and unique values in the mundane. These are things we walk past everyday, but you actually took the time to stop and observe...good on you!

Your writing made me think about objects I pass by everyday that would be similar to this. And then I remembered a project I had wanted to do in Barcelona with doors. I have always be fascinated by architecture and design and doors seem to tie that all together. They have so much character and personality, just like the manholes you discovered!

Cheers and happy traveling!

Doors are a great subject. Go for it!

I like the fact that so much attention seems to have been paid to such an ordinary and everyday item. The cobblestone insets are a nice touch.

True. What I like is the fact that other Steemers have submitted even nicer examples. Next stop, an art gallery exhibit. Perhaps you could host it!

I will do the same with garbage containers!
I think this one in Japan is really nice too!

Congrats for your shots and the blog!

It looks like Japan is the beautiful man hole cover capital of the world!

Why not make all things beautiful. I will be watching the manhole covers more closely.

"Why not make all things beautiful" So true!

Schnitzel, bratwurst, hamburger, pretzel. Love it.
Tschüss, gute nacht ;)

You're right about the food.

Nice post... And I like the light weight shoes on it... was it difficult running and taking the pics? CU...

Actually I discovered them while jogging and then went back.

Your welcome thanks for your reply cheers mike

Great point of view to take a shot :D

It's very interesting! Upvoted :)

This man hole reminds me of the lotus flowers which grow in the mud and are said to be the king of the flowers. So beauty can be anywhere and it is not confined to any specific places. I am also a great lover of art, your pics gave me some nice ideas about beauty. Have a look some of my artistic and beautiful posts.

Thanks so much @rocksg

Wonderful- this post is right up my street! ;D I love these kind of images, and the aesthetic beauty in these everyday things.

Luke with this composition, you can do by yourself.

Those really are beautiful and works of art, too! I think there is much beauty in industrial and architectural features. Much of it goes unsung...but not these manhole covers!! Thanks for sharing them :)

You are correct about many things going unappreciated!

Will update one from Bulgaria very soon :)

Please send us what you find!
