The Old Dog Presents: Your Official Art Exhibit of Manhole Covers!

in art •  7 years ago

Hey friends, great news! We now have an art exhibit of the world's best manhole covers and it is a thing of BEAUTY!!!!

Those manhole covers look soooo good and are worthy pieces of art!

Where is The Art Exhibit?

Why in cyberspace of course...... but still, it's way cool! I was looking around for a place to showcase all of your wonderful submissions to my contest and it turns out there are many options for online Museums and Art exhibits!

I settled on one at www.artsteps.com because I could try it out for free.

Check Out How Great it Looks And Learn Who Won The 10 SBD Prize!

In my previous post on this subject "The Old Dog Discovers: Man Hole Covers as Art!"  I presented manhole covers as art and asked you to send me the beauties that you had seen! Your response led to our beautiful exhibit at ArtSteps!

Do you like the natural lighting? Me too!

Manhole covers as art. Yes indeed this is working out just fine!

You guys sent in some fabulous pieces of art!

Are you sure that these are manholes? Yes indeed I am!

The one on the left is one of mine and it's my only one in the gallery. The rest are all yours!

Would You Like to Have a Walk Around Inside The Gallery?

Come on....let's go. I'll give you the guided tour!

Note: I uploaded here instead of DTube this time but I'll use DTube again....it's great!

So With All of Those Beautiful Manhole Covers Who's The Winner?

Well I have to admit that the colored ones from Japan are amazing but I was looking for the quality of the foundry work, the surrounding road material and for that certain "je ne sais quoi"

Therefore the grand winner is:

This elegant piece was submitted by @livelifefullest and so Martin from the Netherlands will have 10 SBD transferred to his account. Way to go Martin!

Let's Have a Look at Some Manhole Cover Art Hung in My Home!

I'm sick of this water color above our fireplace! Let's Have some Manhole Cover art!

Hey wow! That looks fantastic!

Do you like it? Looks like we've got a future in art fellow Steemers!

A Little Bit About Virtual Galleries

I found the gallery at Artsteps easy to use. I got the free package with which I can have one exhibit with a total of just 30 objects. I am also restricted from inviting anyone to go to our gallery using a link. In other words it is just to try it out!

There are many options for room sizes, configurations, number of rooms, flooring etc... If you're an artist you may want to explore this further.

What Do You Think?

  • Are you surprised at how great our gallery and its pieces look?
  • If you're an artist are you interested in virtual galleries?
  • What other mundane object would you like to see us explore as art? Give me some ideas and we'll have another contest!

I hope that you enjoyed this article about "Your Official Art Exhibit of Manhole Covers!"

Until next time,

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

It's amazing what you can use to produce art!

Yes. Amazing phografy by @kus-knee

Amazing....I especially love the art work over the fireplace ...what a difference....time for a change ,me thinks....

That was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to trying out more mundane objects as art!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

It was an honour for me to pay a visit to world's first manhole art exhibition. With such beautiful art hanging on the walls, it's hard to tell that these are all manhole covers!

Yes seriously, manhole cover looks better than the water colored frame.
I think you struck a novel idea of a manhole art gallery. Who knows, it could inspire the next trend in art galleries and may be even in auction houses for the real, antique manhole covers. Let's start preserving those wonderful pieces as collectibles.

Thanks so much for having a look. My natural curiosity leads to a lot of discovery and fun!

Wow man, some of the things that you find!

Well, I don't have as many creatures here and I'm afraid of some of them anyway. :( SNAKES!

Wow!
I have never seen or heard of this kind of art!
I am actually REALLY loving it!
You sure do like the arts. I have seen you go to so many concerts and exhibits. Thanks for sharing the adventures with us here on Steemit!
SteemON!

You're right ! I try my best to look for the beauty in people, nature and objects. You sure are providing lots of that @quinneaker!

Awwwww Shucks......
;-)>

thanks for saying so @kus-knee i'm following you both now :)

Yea you gotta follow the adventures of The Old Dog!

The lighting in the "outside gallery" gave the subject so much vigour... A great surprise to my eyes and a delight to my mind. Thanks for sharing and namaste :)

Wow @eric-boucher! I've been missing you!

Same here! It has been too long and I'm coming back on track, as we say. It feels good to be back too! Namaste :)

That's really awesome... love your exhibit!

Actually, this is a really timely post... been working on more creative ways to market our art gallery, and these "virtual galleries" sound like they could be a really useful tool to supplement our web site. I know it would be "for pay" but as log as it were not too costly, it might still be worthwhile.

I appreciate the introduction to the concept!

Thanks so much! I was thinking of having your gallery host my exhibit but then I found this one! :)

Kidding aside, there are many out there and I didn't investigate price but just wanted something easy and free. It only took me about 30 minutes to make the display but it's just for 7 days. That's why I took screen shots and did a screen cap video!

Wooww its an awsome post!!! You know already how i love art! Thanks a lot for sharing!

These pictures are very well fit into the interior of your room. I liked the manhole cover that you chose as the winner. I liked also the green one made in japan style ( with sakura and house). These two are just amazing!

You gave me a lot of inspiration with your post!
My Muse will be out of work cos of you lol.

I'm happy that you are inspired. I'm sure that you have a lot to show here on Steemit!

These manholes covers art are really looking fantastic and reminding me of an exhibition which attended in 2016 where simillar kind of art work was displayed...

Very nice post...steem on and stay blissful...

Thanks so much for having a look. This post was a lot of fun and curiosity has led us to some interesting places. Welcome to Steemit by the way. I see that you already have an amazing number of followers! All the best!

Yes ...thank you so much sir for your nicest gesture....when a minnow like me gets a reply from a person of your stature...it feels like motivated and inspired...steem on...stay blissful...

they are amazing. I'd put them in the category "Involontary Street Art" ;)

Hey Paolo, you ARE THE ARTIST! Have you ever tried a virtual gallery?

not really. not a 3D virtual space. I saw many of them, expecially in museums website, but not tried it myself.
It could be interesting. I loved the 3D ambient even before Internet (and they were very low res!)

Wow....I especially love the art work over the fireplace.....That's really awesome....... i love what you are doing......

Thanks so much!

yes!! i love what you are doing!! great show old dog ;) I really love your virtual tour and the gallery idea! what a fun way to showcase our community! and so cute to see you put the images in your home with photoshop, or however you did that, I love the ingenuity! keep steeming away! i'll be following!

Thanks so much @jacquelyne

epperò...non male, non maleee

It truly is amazing what there is out there to discover!

These are all stunning! And what a creative and fascinating theme of man holes! I love what you've done here, and that you've gotten others to participate in this creative endeavour. Really awesome work! :)

Thanks a lot @natashahall in Ontario! It was great fun!

Your hard work and effort have paid off! @livelifefullest. A success well deserved, an occasion worth celebrating! Congratulations! @kus-knee Alone we can do so much little, together we can do so much. Your dedication and service is appreciated for the steemit community.
Color is the mouse or keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the cyber virtual space with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one mouse click, keyboard key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.
Kudos. you make the cyber virtual gallery to a real amazing living creature in the living room with natural lighting. upvote and resteem as well. cheers

Thanks so much for the encouragement, support and resteem!

It has its own peculiar style. These manholes are eye catching heh.
At least there were no shoes on the walls.

Yes the shoes! Thanks for coming!

Wow! In a first moment i was thinking that was real! Nice program!
Congrats to @livelifefullest for the winning! Really nice picture!
Maybe next time you can make street art floor contest! ;)

Thanks for coming. Yes the program makes it look real. Thanks for your idea for another contest!

Thanx to you and you blog! Really interesting!
image
I know that you like clouds! ;)
I made some blog about! :)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

You're right I love clouds but just the real ones like in your picture!

I didn't know about virtual galleries until my friend showed me a canvas print she wanted to buy and what it would look like in her home. Very cool manhole cover art. I think maybe beer caps can be used to make interesting art too. How about toilet seat covers?

It really is interesting to see what you can do with a virtual gallery. I like your suggestions as well. I'll have a think about it.

This is super quirky and super brilliant @kus-knee, I love it. Upvoted.

Yes I can tend to be quirky at times! :)

Nothing wrong with that my friend. ;-)

Wow i can say, but when you says its manholes then it gets interesting ans i get more curious to know more and more about it, thanks a lot for posting this..

Thanks to you for having a look!

Wow! Friend beautiful collection of man holl covers. I like most of the works, but your own is very beautiful, if I were a judge ,I would select your one. Thanks for giving the talent the chance to show their works. If you don't mind please visit my blog too so that I will also be blessed with your visit. Thanks, have a great day, Happy steeming friend.

Thanks for having a look!

It's my pleasure friend. Will you please give a look to my too, as I wrote
about what I did with your supports for the flood victims. Please friend I expect your sweet support and love. Have a great time friend happy steeming.

Maybe this is the in thing now, I have a man hole cover in my garden, might put that on my wall lol

Yes but use a strong nail to hand it on!

I will need something much stronger more like scaffolding

Congrats to the winier @livelifefulle
great work .. No one will think of having a contest out of manhole art. we tend to neglect manhole completely.
Even when we are on road we look at them as a hazard , not as a art
this is a great initiative.
great work @kus-knee
Cheers!

Thanks for your nice comment!

I thought it was some art museum looking at those pics until i read the whole post. You have really got some good collection of Manhole Cover art. I could see a guitar in one of your pics. You mentioned about your love for tabla in your previous post .Do you play guitar too?If yes, then I would love to see you playing it.

I do some strumming! Here's my only post with me playing:

That's great !! Have you tried any Indian classical music using tabla and citar ?

You have a Excelent Manhole Cover Arts @ The Old Dog.. Virtual tour is fantastic.. 😊😊
Upvoted and resteemed..

Thanks for the thumbs up and the resteem!

Are they really cast like that and then just painted? They look incredible!

They are just photos of manhole covers! Then when you put the photos in the gallery they make them look like 3D!

But the designs that are painted are cast into the iron aren't they?

Ah Ok I get it. The Japanese Manhole covers that are coloured. I'm not sure how they do it. I would imagine that they use some type of epoxy paint on top of the cast iron.

But are the same designs cast into the iron?

Congrats on the latest chapter to your book! How did you make that cool colored Sicilian band on your home page?

If you go to settings, there is now a box where you can add a url for a banner for your blog. The size that seems to work is 1640x240.
Yes I tend to read many of the comments LOL

Then you must be rewarded for your exemplary conduct and good Steemianship!

Much obliged Old Dog. Yeah I uploaded an image, just like I was posting it. Basically dragged and dropped it into a new story. That gives you the for url. Then clean the url up so it takes the form of
htps://steemitimages.com/blablabla.jpg.
1640x240 works until we hear something official

A friend on Facebook made it years ago (another Sicilian)... he said to use it!

Very interesting and unusual post. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot!

Superb collection and I really enjoyed them very much. Thanx for sharing, you are true lover of art this post proves. I will do some collaboration with you in the future as I am an artist.

Great to have more artists here on Steemit!

@kus-knee,
It seems great, actually first I couldn't understand what you were talking about and then I have noticed about your art gallery :D (I thought it was real, my mistake)
It seems like that you could collect a lot of manhole covers!
Finally I would like to congratz '@livelifefullest' for the victory! And hope I will participate the next round of this contest!

Thanks for sharing such great article! And I will check out that "artsteps.com" too.

Cheers~

This was a lot of fun. I can't blame you for your mistake because it does look real!

Very interesting. I've seen a few manhole covers in town that I could use as a pallet. Not sure that's a good idea however?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

So creative of you....keep it up...

Very nice that you create this from your post, and also that you selected a price, congratulations @livelifefullest. Waiting for your next piece of art.. My idea of the next contest is: make a nice picture of a mc Donalds big mac box which you find in the wild what people throwwed away... And off course clean it up later to make our planet green.
Resteemed and upvoted..
