Hands #9 - Figurative Drawing Study

in art •  7 years ago

This is one of drawings from a series I did of my own hands. Initially the idea seemed simple. I just draw my hands in different poses. But, then, they have to look interesting, not only the pose the hands are in, but also the lighting and composition. There was a surprisingly smaller percentage of images that made the cut.

I work on toned / coloured paper because it makes it far easier to create a relief effect, build the volume of the forms, or in modern computer parlance, more 3D.

This work is in a private collection in Germany.

34 x 24cm, pastel pencils on paper.

hard-working hand!

Beautiful details of an old worker's hand! Up and resteemed!

Thank you very much! =)

Wow this is mind blowing. Great contrast and work on lighting!

Intense feeling in this hand!

Wow! Hands are so difficult, but you made it look so real. Upvoted!

Thank you!

Following. All the best for your personal artwork a day challenge. Sounds easy, but it is a challenge. I tried it out last year. It really makes you work.

Now that's something I always wished to do, but always failed miserably every time I've tried to do it... Drawing.
Impressive work, @leoplaw.
Uped, resteemed and you earned a new follower as well :))

Practice is the key. I started years ago, drawing in class when I should have been paying attention to the lesson. The joke is, I was booted out of class for this with my pencil and paper, and so I thought, OK, this a punishment, great, I'll just continue drawing.
Thanks for following and the resteem @brumest! Following you back. =)

Well, as they say, "everything happens for a reason"... Glad you left the class room still holding that pencil.
Thanks for following back :))

It seems you've captured my hand after a day of recording guitar...

Fantastic work @leoplaw. Followed! Look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

You need a good hand massage then! Thanks for following, more artwork is coming along soon. =)
Following back. I worked in the music industry for a while, touring with a number of acts. It is indeed a bumpy road, but one that can certainly provide some amazing experiences. I've witnessed the very genesis, to climbing all the way up. Keep up the good work.

Incredible, I love how many creatives there are on here... I hope you share the story at some point! (Perhaps even in visual form?)

Hands are tough! I painted a whole series of them to try to become more well-versed. They still are so challenging. Very well done. Definitely following.

I have read that even the likes of Da Vinci and Dürer practiced every day throughout their entire careers. There was an inspiring quote I read recently. Hard work will always beat talent, if talent does not work hard.
Following you back. =)
